Default 11 mpg is this normal 😦😦

So filled my tank up last week 60l of v power I drive fairly light footed the odd 0-40 boost up the bypass but mostly 3 mile commute of boost twice a day and on the full tank managed 150 miles which I worked out around 11 mpg.

Is this normal or is there something I should be looking at sensor wise etc

Ta

Yup 11 mpg is pretty bad if it's a standard car!
What car is it and what mods, any fault codes showing, check engine light on?
Can you smell petrol, how's the car drive?
Check everything bugeyedom says
If it's had a decat dp then some remove the o2 sensor, which will make it run rich on cruise&idle.
How long have you had the car? Had it always been this bad on petrol?

Depends how you're working it out as it needs to be done properly, brim to brim, because theres no way you'll get a full 60L in it unless it's bone dry and you pushed it to the garage.

My WRX PPP averages around 28mpg and there's still a good 20L left in it at qtr tank mark as I can never get more than 40L in it, and I never let it go below that.

My Type R was more like 20/22 mpg mixed but as soon as you boot it that goes down drastically, 10 mins of fun and you're looking at more like 15mpg over the tank full.

But 11mpg is more like what I'd expect on a track day.

Thanks for the replys, the car drives fine however when cold does take about 5 secs of cranking to start and kicks our a little cloud of greyish smoke that smells funny. The brakes are fine as it can fee roll with ease, definitely no fuel leaks and pump is new 225 Walbro, exhaust has been messed with its got s/s headers and a decat with 3" back exhaust but I can only see 1 lambda sensor??? Only other mods are dv and hks air filter

I'm guessing none of these mods have been mapped for and it's over fueling like fukc.

I've got no idea I've only had it about 3mth.. so could this be the cause then that it's not set up properly for the mods? It's a 96 wrx 260bhp model covered 89k btw

Prob is indeed. Those mods would need a map. Get it checked out asap and I'd try and drive it off boost till its looked at. I expect afr's are mega out

Ok I will do... would an emissions test at a m.o.t station provide enough information or should it be plugged into by a specialist?

Get it to a specialist, get those AFR's checked, unfortunately your car if it has the standard ECU will not be mappable,so it will need an aftermarket one or ESL board fitting to get your AFR's,timing, boost ect inline and working as it should.

At only running 3 mile trip each way a day, in cold weather I would say 11mpg is about spot on,its not even getting up to temp, I would be more worried about polluting the engine oil & the high risk of bearing damage.

Is this correct? If so I think I'd rather bike it or buy a cheap runaround then risk killing my engine

It's not great doing constant small journey,I would of thought you would warm the car up before setting off anyway, especially if you're going onto boost? Even so It should still do more that 11mpg
My commute to work is only 8 mile in a highly modified classic and I still get 20+ mpg even with a little fun along the way

I always warm it mate... 5_10 mins of idling on the drive before I go work..The temp gauge is usually a quater way up before I set of.. It takes me literally 5 mins to drive to work and then same home. God im lazy lol

Yup you lazy git!
You could cycle to work in the time it takes to warm it up.

On reflection I think I have given bad advice!
Cycling is hard work and no fun at all, scrap the bike, make sure the car is nice and toasty before you set off on your 3 mile journey(Or take a more scenic route),make sure you give it plenty of boost for extra smile factor
Then cool down for 5 mins when you reach your destination

Do get those AFR's checked tho as them mods you have on there should be mapped in.
