hi can anyone help please
ive just brought a uk x reg classic with no engine and ecu (3 PIN )
i have a 95 import classic ECU (4 PIN )
what i would like to know is if i put the engine in can i use a 3 pin ecu from a import forester to run the car
also is the key immob in the ecu or is it sepereate on the uk model

I would imagine that the engine will fit in just fine but there would be some changes to the wiring in the engine bay as the older engine might have individual coil packs and the newer car could be wireed for a single could pack on top of the engine. Individual coil packs seem to be the way to go as an upgrade for single coil pack cars, so this might be a good thing.
As for the ECU, I'm not sure the forester one would work based on what I've seen in the 97/98 ECU anyway. There's some differences in the ignition circuits and turbo control (forester being twin turbo?). I could be wrong though.
Again I refer to the 97/98 ECU here but the immobiliser is in the ECU itself.
Look on eBay for a suitable ECU and key set, or else contact one of the breakers on here.

Import cars have the crank and cam sensor in a different position and the fuel pump signal wire in a different location on UK cars.
As piehole says,you might be better of sourcing a UK ECU(and key set)to match the engine,although I'm sure it's possible to sort the UK loom out to run an import ECU.
