Default Closed deck Engine swap!

Hi, can anybody tell me what it would ultimately take to get a 2.1 closed deck to work with a set spec c big port heads? And what it would take to get it working in a 03 wrx?

Also what are the benefits with going with 93mm pistons over 92.5mm?

Thanks, Toby

Lots. As there is no point putting standard heads in there.

Wiring looms
Converted ecu (alcatek) or syvecs
Crank pulley
Pipework
Cam covers

Plus upgrading them with cams valves etc.

I'd stick with v6 heads with some porting and polishing. Plus it's a lot easier finding agood set of v6 co pared to avcs

I'm on the hunt for some good condition v6 heads now, don't suppose you know the differences between v3 and v6 sti heads?

Thanks, Toby

V3 won't fit your car due to differing inlet manifold, iacv, ignition etc

Cool just got hold of a set of v6 heads, do you think it's worth going shimless buckets on the v6's or stick with the oem shim under buckets? And what would be the best intake manfold to run do you reckon?

Thanks a lot

Stick with your inlet and under shim buckets unless you're going to start spending massive money and go for extreme power

Is it worth going oversize valves and upgraded spings? Also what duration and lift do you reckon on the cams or just stick with the standard cams?

Thanks mate

If you plan on running anti lag a lot, then go for a selective/shimless bucket conversion on the heads because it has been known for the underbucket shim to become dislodged from the top spring retainer in certain circumstances.

Cool, i'll leave the heads standard with just a pnp, unless it's worth doing +1 valves and a spring kit?

And i take it i'll be alright to use a 92-95 timing kit with the v6 heads?

Thanks

No no pint doing any of that. All depends how mad you want to do. I did over 550hp with my standard v3 heads.

Timing kit is on the block so use the one to suit your block

No worries i'll leave the heads alone lol

What size injectors do you reckon for 500bhp? And should i do billet fuel rails and parellel fuel lines?

Thanks

Apologies if I've missed something: you have a 2.1 CDB, with V6 heads, going in to an '03 WRX?

From a wiring/ECU perspective the easiest is a 2001-on inlet. The engine loom will mate up directly to your car, and, if you'd gone for AVCS heads after all, you would have just needed an add-on AVCS wiring loom. Fit a newage STi ECU and then you can have it mapped for the 2.1/injectors etc.

If you already have a V5/6 inlet, you will need to sort the wiring out on the engine loom as it won't mate up properly to the car, and the idle control will definitely need a Syvecs or similar.

If you've not sourced an inlet yet, I would strongly recommend a newage one (it will fit the V6 heads) as then the wiring is a much easier task, with a much wider choice of ECUs (AlcaTek, SimTek, Syvecs, OEM etc.). If you get one with TGV's these can be "deleted" or seek out a Spec C/2005 JDM inlet which doesn't have them.

IMHO

Yes, that looks OK (if pricey!!). With no AVCS you can use your existing 2003 WRX engine loom on this.

Have you not still got your WRX inlet? If not, they are probably readily available from breakers for not a lot.

If you use the OEM 2001-2005 WRX loom (or STi, but that has AVCS connectors which you won't need) then there is no wiring to do
