Running a 2005 wrx on 95ron
Hi all, so here's the problem, I only get 95ron where I stay. I almost bought an sti blobeye while back but running it on 95ron put me off buying it, I hear you can run a wrx safely on 95ron.
Would I have to get it mapped? If so could I send the ecu sepretly to get done as there's no mapping places nearby.
Thanks

I had my last blob wrx mapped for 95 ron
I had a vf35, pinks, top mount, decat fitted. At first it was mapped for 99 ron, I said I was happy with 325ish BHP when on the rolling road, because I didn't want to push to max. I was made redundant and had a map tweek for 95 ron, it didn't lose any bhp. The timing and fueling were fine with 95 ron because it hadn't been maxed out on 99 ron.
I wouldn't send the ecu away, surely you can spend £50 on fuel to travel to a reputable garage?

A few years ago I had a Leon FR and sent the ECU away for a remap. I was sh*tting myself from when I posted it (insured) until I got it back. Refitted it and CEL lit each time under hard accelleration. Sent it back, got it back and refitted it, still the same. The company sent someone out to sort it, it got sorted but ddn't feel any faster than when it was standard.
I had another company come and map it after and there was a big improvement, so it wouldn't surprise me if the first company had just put it back to standard because their map was ****
So I had 2 weeks without my car and didn't notice any improvement.
I paid for a custom remap and noticed a difference
Have a look on scottish scoobies for reputable tuners

i would.nt lose sleep over it see absolutely loads of wrx filling up at my local asda that only sell 95 ron fuel - without the extra ron the cars just drive "flat" .
scoobs feel more torquey and responsive on 99.
its really only when the modifacations start that it will become an issue.
before 99 ron fuels were widely available we all used pour in tank fuel additives
,but obviously adds to the cost of every fill up that way.
not much 99ron fuel in west country either and none at all in southern ireland

It will need mapping for 95.

Ran my un-tweaked hawkeye wrx for 5 years on 95, without any issues. Tried 97 for 4 tank fulls once and realised the difference in output wasn't worth the extra outlay.
A tuner will probably tell you to remap cos they want to charge for a tuning, but my local scooby dealers sumed it up with 'it says 95 in the book so stick 95 in it.'

I'll be having mine mapped 95 and nf black octane booster ****ed here in Southern Ireland
The brothers gtir did make 476 bhp on straight 95 octane at 1.6 bar on a gt3037s
