Default V3 Type R rear brake help

Hi

Looking for some help with my rear brakes. I realise this has been covered many times before but I keep reading conflicting story's about it.

I'd like to fit 2 pot brembos to the rear. Obviously they won't fit straight on but how do I go about it ?

I currently have 290mm solid discs with a 190mm handbrake and some terrible single pot calipers :/

I'm pretty certain the driveshafts are too small for newage STI hubs, I think the wrx ones would fit the shaft but I've read that they won't work ?

Is my only option sourcing V4-V6 Type R hubs ? And probably a bracket to make them fit ? I can see them being hard to come by.

On the bright side the garage I'm using just so happens to have the discs for the rear brembos from Godspeed with the 190mm handbrake just lying around

Help very much appreciated

Thanks

Just get a bracket from Godspeed or as performance? No need for messing around with hubs

Version 3 STI Type R should accept the calipers without brackets. They are a one year only rear brake set up that uses single pot rear calipers but have the larger hub

Hi

Unfortunately its not that easy on the V3 Sti RA , the easiest way is to find some V4 or 5 rear hubs , the 2 pots will bolt straight on then.

The rear end is all the same between a V3 and version 4 , apart from the backplates , you can buy backplates from import car parts , they are about £100 each , but you have to remove the drive flange which will probably mean the bearings will get damaged removing them , so add £75 ish to replace them.

The V3 and V4 both use the R180 rear diff , which has the larger shafts , CV's , hubs ect , so yours will all be the same as a V4 , the 2001 onwards WRX has the R160 rear back end so has the smaller shafts and hubs ect

Thanks for the replys

So looks like I'm after V4-V5 rear hubs.

Any STI ones do ? Doesn't matter if there from a normal STI, a type r or an ra ?

only the STi RA and the Type-R STi have the correct larger R180 rear hub set-up

all V3-v6 are the same fitment with the v3 having the oddball backing plate and brakes

You could always fit Newage WRX Rear hubs, cut the lip of the backing plates and use the thick handbrake shoes. That is the easiest way to do it.

No its not , the new age wrx back end is smaller, it doesn't fit ? He either needs to fit version 4 onwards hubs , or change the backplates

Well if he has an R180 rear diff its even easier, non widetrack newage STI rear hubs and that's it. A second hand set of hubs will be a cheaper and easier option.

Done this on my v3 type r. Used v4-6 r180 rear hubs from a type r that accept both brembos and Subaru 2 pot calipers. Newage r180 hubs will work but that have all the abs stuff, that although isn't in the way isn't true type r.

There are no adapters to make 2 pots or brembos fit v3 backing plates, as Ian quite rightly points out in these threads and he would make and sell them if they were possible.

Hope this helps.

Newage wrx hubs are r160 if I'm right. Also with 170mm handbrake and not 190mm.

Newage STI rear hubs are far easier to get hold of and shouldn't cost more than £75 a side.
