Default Thinking of Ditching Cone filter

Car is mapped etc and I can tweak it myself so no issues there, but since fitting I have small niggles that annoy me , so thinking if standard airbox again , running around 330 so no big power but will I notice power issues ?

When j fitted it I'm sure it felt quicker so am in 2 minds whether to put up or shut up

Cone or airbox ?

Cheers

i resisted fitting my cone filter in favour of a k&n panel filter. it just didnt make sense to me to have an open cone filter sucking in hot air from the engine bay. i guess if it has a shield around it and a cold air feed from the fog light or whatever then it will work well.

Only benefit from a cone filter is induction sound. Subaru's tend to fair better without them unless your running big bhp.

Yeah , the sound does maybe give the placebo effect of a faster car as I'm sure cars better with it accelerating but once airbox is back on will see lol

Cheers

Yeah your probably right, if you car sounds faster, can easily make you feel like your going faster. Even a back box change does that. Let us know his you get on.

Why would a cone filter work fine on a big bhp car but not on something running less power? That doesn't make sense, particularly as high power cars probably drum up higher under bonnet temperatures.

once your shooting for beyond 450 the airbox and maf tube are the restriction as it becomes difficult to physically suck enough air through them. At that point you have to look at a change to the induction system.

Agreed, but why should a cone filter work perfectly well on a higher power car, with its corresponding under-bonnet temperatures, but not on a lower power car? Mine worked fine at 350bhp and continues to do so at well over 400bhp.

A cool air supply from the front of the car would seem necessary but there are plenty of high power cars that don't even have that.

high power cars will also usually have a frontmount fitted as well as the cone filter so the much larger amount of air coming in is cooled better by the larger FMIC core - you'll still see a gain with a good cold air feed though.

Agreed i have an RMC in bay big cone,

Also have HDI front mount,

Currently looking to find Foglamp intake and headlamp intake just to reduce the temps in bay that extra bit,

Cars just or fun so can put up with lack off full beam on one side

May be overkill i know but coolers better right ??

With the TMIC removed there will also be a considerable amount of cool air coming through the bonnet scoop, helping to keep temps down.

Well turns out my issues were down to a faulty SWRD 255LPH fuel pump that finally failed last night !!

Cone filter will remain

My car made 394 bhp on a K&N panel filter, I then bought a cheap ebay inner wing induction kit, cut the tube just before the bend on the inner wing part and stuck a K&N Rc2530 on it, doesnt sit too low down and risk getting wet as I cut the tube, car the made 410 bhp and 412 lbft torque.
