Should be fine if it's like for like.
Always nice to have the map checked anyway but are you still on the standard ECU? So not mappable atm and costs go up quiet a bit from the price of a tweak, depending what you go for regarding engine management.

yes still on standard ecu I thought the same about the early ecu not being mappable but I found this on andy carrs website

92-98 & sti v1-v4

The Phase 1 Impreza/Forester/Legacy ECU cannot be directly remapped, however Enduring Solutions Limited have developed a system to allow the OEM ECU to be remapped in realtime with additional features including dual maps and speed density conversion. teamCarr works very closely with ESL and is one of the most experienced installers of this system in the UK, prices from £550 fitted and mapped

Yes I'm running ESL on my V3.
As standard early classics not mappable without a board installed.

ESL is a good option for the price but like I say it's a lot more money than a £150 map check/tweak.

For v3/4 yes there is a Motorsport pack with all the bells and whistles.
For v1/2 not yet,,but Andy Stevens has said that this should be out soon, when I don't know?
Maybe drop him a call or mail to ask?

Looks like a very nice example
Classics have the best smile factor imo
I know you didn't enjoy the newage car so hopefully this one will put the smile back on your face
