Rotating and holding Cam Gears to reinstall Timing Belt ?

Default Rotating and holding Cam Gears to reinstall Timing Belt ?

Hi all,

Ive had my Timing Belt off to change a Cam Gear oil seal and also to change the Water Pump and Timing Belt. Upon removing the Timing Belt the passenger side Cam Gears moved as they are under tension.

What do people use to rotate the Cams and get them lined up to install the Timing Belt? Do you align them both at the same time and hold them somehow to slide the belt on, or tackle one Cam gear at a time?

PS - I do have a tool to hold the two cams in place before removing the belt but I could not use it this time due to changing one of the cam seals.

too late for you now but i saw a video where the guy cut the timing belt in half length ways all the way round and pulled half off and slid the new one in place and cut the other bit off and job was done. pretty nifty.

Thats the Fuzz Townshend method lol

All done.

I did the lower passenger side cam first, rotated it counterclockwise - as per the service manual - lined it up and held the ratchet in place with cable ties. Then turned the top cam clockwise with an allen key and held it in place by hand whilst fitting the belt.
