Broken front driveshaft
I broke a front driveshaft at the Pod this morning, first run at launch. My new ACT clutch doesn't slip lol
I have a JDM sixspeed conversion on my blobeye wrx wagon but the front driveshafts are standard items. I can easily source a good used replacement but are STI driveshafts stronger and would they fit?
thanks

Could it be down to a crack or surface defect? I don't think you need to upgrade

the rears were changed with the 6 speed conversion so I then wondered if the fronts were a weak point. The break is clean and straight as in a snap.
I had the NOS activated and launch control at 5000 rpm, so it got 490lbsft in one hit, I don't think the clutch blinked.
I drove 20miles to get home, what car would do that with a broken shaft

Another way to look at it.
Is that you want the weakest point in the drive train to be the shafts.
As you are better breaking one of those twice a year that regularly doing boxes and diffs.
Have you had the six speed conversion in long? If you have and the shaft has been good for while before it broke. Then perhaps just fit another standard one and see how you go with it.
If bang it goes again pretty quickly ...then look to upgrade. But bear in mind you always want the shafts to be the thing that does let go. It doesnt allways work out that way of course
