Default TGV delete - any issues with it?

Hi all,

This morning I started the car to go to work and it threw a P2006 code. One of the TGV's is either not funtioning, stuck or a wiring fault etc. I'm going to check it out and make sure wiring is ok.

But.. if I were to go for a TGV delete kit is there anything I'd need to be aware of? I have a Tactrix cable so can remove the fault codes myself. I'm more interested in any running issues.

Also how hard is it to do? Just a case of unbolting the intake manifold and removing them from the head?

Car is a 2006 Hawk WRX (has AVCS)

Thanks,

IIRC Fault code will persist, needs to be mapped to get rid.

Thanks for the reply but see above "I have a Tactrix cable so can remove the fault codes myself." The tractrix will allow me to map the codes out..
I have mapped the secondary air pump out myself in the past so know this works.

There's no issues with removing them. Throttle response is better without them.

No problem, you can remove quite a bit of aluminium from the INLET manifold while it's off too.

Thanks all, it is running a VF28 (320bhp/350lb-ft) Will I see any power gains by removing these?
Should I consider a tweak to the map as well as removing the codes?

Right. I got a set old used TGVs off eBay to play with. Butterflies are out. I'm going to remove the shafts and plan is to thread the ends and stick bolts in there with some thread lock to seal them.
Now, what to do with the holes in the middle where the shaft was? Not keen on leaving them open as would be a large bleed of air going between intakes.
I have considered drilling outer holes a little larger to get a tap in there, tap some holes thread lock some bolts in and grind the heads off. I would be worrying about them vibrating out though. Any thoughts?

And yes, I will be gutting the rest of the material out.

Thanks,

Just leave the holes, it's not a problem. I tapped the outside holes 1/2" unc with the taper tap (not through) and loctited grub screws in (bottomed out on the incomplete thread)

Cheers Boosted. I started dismantling my spare TGV's last night. How did you get the brass sleeve out? I've tried an oil seal puller and tried to knock them out with an old screwdriver and a hammer but not budging. Filled them as best I can with penetrating oil and left overnight. I'm just concerned about damaging the metal underneath.
Thanks,

ok cool. was considering that but wanted to be sure.
I still have reservations about the internal hole. When the shaft came out it was larger than I thought it would be. Just worried about causing an imbalance.

Other option is to buy STI TGV risers, straight fit.
