Default P0638 CEL error ...

Sorry, posted in a couple of places on here...

Dunno if this is OK in this topic...

2009 STI impreza 330S, forged, SC46 billet turbo, perrin FMIC., 1000 cc/min id injectors etc.

Got a check engine light Wednesday morning, car would absolutely NOT pull away, 9 MPH max!

Cleared code.
Engine / throttle worked fine.

Happened again Friday. No torque to pull away. Also revs jumped up from idle @ 800 ish to about 1500.

And again tonight, again at standstill at traffic lights.

Have already cleaned the 6 pin multiplug on throttle, and cleaned inside throttle / butterfly area.

Normal commute journeys each time, in some stop start traffic, occurred both times when in a line, stationary.

P0638 code - throttle actuator range.

1. What could be the cause ( pedal position sensor, throttle positioner, throttle motor??? )

2. How can I check these items, or do I need to visit dealer for diagnostics?

3. Are these parts available and at what cost!!

Thanks muchly,

I do have the ECUTek ProECU ( deltadash ?? ) kit so could read values, log ... any use here?

Thanks

what about disconnecting it all pump the brake leave the car disconnected for a few hours and see if that helps , you are correct if it's not worked than a good subaru place to go to tell you what it may be is a good idea and may save you money in the long run , but no harm in a reset and see what happens

Reset from the code reader, came back twice over 3 days, then not at all for 5 days, then 3 times in 1 mile.

Got a throttle body off ebay after trying all sorts of clean / checks on system.

Was the throttle body, motor seemed to stop moving butterfly.

Swapped out for one off ebay to test, car no longer drops to idle / no throttle action and actually feels back to her 500 bhp/lbft best - so seems like has been slowly failing for a few months!

Found 1 with same model number as mine, for £49 + p&p on ebay!
In good order, fitted easy - 10 mins job ( no TMIC on my car - FMIC ).

Looks like £500 / $600+ off internet! Dunno dealer price.

Seems a few have failed but not common.

But neither was my clutch master cylinder fail 2 years ago! Fluid leak for fun!
Most other stuff has been changed during my upgrade frenzy!!!

that sounds like a good price to resolve the issue you had , apart from engine failure hg issues , i'm not aware of any item that fails regularly on subarus unlike most other makes , some things are very random re failures , i wonder if the fmic added to the failure ?
