Default Greddy oil gauge connector - the heck?

Hey guys,

Bought this out of curiosity to play around used, was missing the sensor itself. I searched high and low, but I can't find anything similar to the connector that currently is on the 'oil sensor harness' (grey one).

As I understand this could very well be replaced by the previous owner? Maybe somebody has an idea why the 4 cables then? +/-, signal1, signal2?

I saw these AliExpress sensors, with double output (warning/signal), maybe this would work?

Trying to figure how to test it cheaply, or if I should just put it on the shelf as a memoir.

Thanks guys! And thanks for the link! The piece was about 1/8th of the price so it's not worth it - but still I appreciate the gesture.

Long story short, it's an old old unit and is different from the wiring provided in the current Greddy web. That cable that I was confused about is actually signal, even though with the new units the right one is power.

I tested it out yesterday - playing around with resistances and various voltages - and it seems to function. Yellow/Grey/Red/Blue all seem to be signal oriented like I stated above. If I understand correctly one is for the warning light, other is signal, other is ground.. not sure why there's a 4th one.

In any case, I am going to pickup a chinese 0-180Ohm sender to play around with - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Engine-Oil...4AAOSwMjNTzSPi

I wasn't able to find the Ohm values that Greddy senders use. Anybody knows if it's anywhere near 0-180Ohm?

The only sensor that works with a greddy gauge is............... a greddy one

Found this out 1st hand, they may look the same, even have the same connector, you connect them up, it wont register properly on the gauge.

new sensor about £90, again, found this out ................

To have 4 wires is it not a voltage based sensor rather than resistance...

And those ching chong specials wont work with it, the controller wont read it.

Thats not true, its all about sensor scaling. Defi and Greddy sensors are interchangable as they use the same scales.

Other brands wont register as they are outside of the range that the controllers can read.

Thanks Glanza. I was thinking that I really need to read up on that, so I will go to my electrician friend any day now for a good lesson . Thanks for the initial idea what to ask him about .

And yeah, it seems like the resistance range is quite out of it. The sensor is about the same as a new gauge from some other 'lesser' manufacturer, so I guess it's not really worth it. Thanks for the links, but I will prob just keep it for playing around in the future .
