Just bought a classic wrx and found the speedo was not working this was putting the ECU in safe mode and limiting the car to 4500 rpm.
Opened up the clocks and found the adapter on the rear of the clocks was not turning even thought the speedo cable was turning. Seems to be either rounded in the cable insert or just oversize, had a quick search around on ebay and google for adapters that plug onto the back of the clocks and having a bit of a hard time finding anything.
Its just a nylon male female adaptor housing with a square female drive on the input and a male square drive on the output. Has anyone seen any of these around for sale new or second hand not really bothered as long as it works.

Ditch the one from behind the speedo, reconnect the speddo cable into the cluster, then buy the convertor that goes between the 2 cables that run from the gearbox
