Immobilizer help! Key fob wont always work.
Hi guys,
Im completely new to Subarus, so i apologize if i'm sounding a bit dumb
I have 2001 Bugeye UK300. It has this key fob (picture) which i have to click to get the immobilizer to flash and it will start, as most of you will know already.
Firstly, what is the name of the immobilizer/alarm i have? Sigma?
Secondly i have been having issue with it. I had to replace the battery 3 times now. Each new, good branded set only last 3-4 weeks before it stops working. However i have just replaced the batteries and it still not working very well. It takes around 5-10 minutes of trying for it to work. The odd occasion it will work second click.
Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? Is it the actually keyfob?
Thanks

Thats from the M series Sigma system, they do suffer from "lock out" from local interference.

Car is fitted with a Sigma M30 alarm.
If you only have one remote fob (or even if you have the original 2) then knowing your PIN code is essential should the fob fail.
If you don't know your code (to use on the keypad in the coin tray by the drivers right knee) you can reset it as long as you have a working remote.
Information on this can be found in the owners manual -linked here

Early sigma units suffered from "Radio lockout" near Tetra masts but were modified (shielded against this) from MY01.
after much use it's possible the fob operating button is showing signs of fatigue (as do the later single button keys that replaced them) whereby the gel in the micro switch leaks out giving intermittent results as you are experiencing.

Perfect response guys, thank you. I will look into it.
I can normally deal with it, but yesterday after filling up at a petrol i could not get it to work for around 7 minutes, with people queuing up behind me pipping their horns. Nightmare! Next stop was the shop, 10 minutes down the road, started on the first click
