Default Newbie engine oil advice wrx

Hi everyone,

I have recently bought a wrx modified to around 300bhp with vf35 pink injectors, sti top mount with sti scoop full ninja 2 decat and an ecutek remap by scoobyworld. I know the car currently has 5w30 mpm fully synth oil. This is looking on the low side to me and is measuring inline on the bottom hole of the dip stick. My question is should I top this up with the same stuff now and when I get it serviced in the new year what oil would be best for the above spec. Cheers.

Depends on the mileage and assuming it has stock bearings, but personally I'd be more comfortable running a top quality 10w40 fully synth instead.

If it has uprated/race bearings or high mileage maybe even 10w50 fully synth.

Thanks engine is on 71k with stock internals and bearings, been advised by my garage that 5w 40 would be a good replacement once the new oil and filter service is done.

I'd be going for at least 10w/40 if not 50. What's recommended from new isn't always the best with a few miles on it.

any 5w is too thin. Fine on a new car but on a 10+ year old turbo car you want 10w40 or 50 as mentioned above.
