Torque value for Oil cooler modine bolt please?
Hi All,
Thanks for any answers in advance.
Looking for the recommended torque value on the oil cooler modine retaining bolt on my WR1? I used 54 Nm from an electronic Subaru manual I have.
It’s not really a bolt, it an open bore threaded piece which screws into the bottom of the block & holds the modine in place plus the oil filter screws onto the bottom portion of threads. You know the one!! It requires the long reach 24 mm socket to tighten. You know the one you don’t have in your socket set & you have to go & buy on it’s own.
My oil cooler modine was leaking between the top face of the modine & the underside of the block. I removed it & changed out the “O”ring with an OEM Subaru part. Installed it with a little oil on threads & torqued it back up. I was just wondering if the torque I got from the manual I have was indeed incorrect & this was what was maybe causing the modine to leak?
On restart afterabout 15/20 mins when the oil heated up I had the same leak.
I am hoping to install a new OEM modine & seal in the next couple of days & would just like to confirm that I have the right torque value?

Thanks for the reply Wull. Will do
I did check it with mirror & flexible torch millimetres before mating the faces . So hopefully it will not be that.
If it is then I just spent some lolly for nothing - OEM modines not cheap.
At the end of the day am hoping it is the modine that was leaking. I just want her sealed. Will know soon enough.

Quick update. Did the job yesterday.
The seal on the old modine was sitting correctly in the modine recess when I removed it.
Installed the new modine = no more leak. Obviouisly it was the sandwhich plates on the modine that were leaking.
Am chuffed to bits as I now have a leak free WR1 . This leak was not big but it was annoying me.
