Default EJ20 STI Pistons

Can anybody assist. What is the difference between version 1-4 92mm pistons and version 5,6 92mm pistons.
I have a V5 type ra, which was smoking after a drive back from the ring. Stripped it down and it has destroyed the ringlands on 3 and 4. I have a set of low milage wossner forged from my old version 1.
I was told they won't be any good with no real explanation.. any ideas ?

Not much help on the pistons for you, but from what I know it's the rods / rod bolts that differed along with the heads and cams throughout the versions... that said it may have something to do with the piston crowns / cc and compression ratio, but as far as i'm aware the heads are inter-changable even with newage blocks so again the above would appear to be negated... be interested to know the answer when you do find out.

You could always give someone like Scooby clinic, Motors GT or Engine Tuner a call, they'll know for sure and be able to tell you why... if that's the case.
