Default Id an engine please!

Hi im trying to fit a replacement engine in my 2003 blob eye wagon. The engine i had has come from a 2002 wrx turbo I belive.

the diffrance is the inlets and the turbo both are ej20 engine codes.

Bottom inlet is on the engine im trying to fit top one is from the car
This is the engine im trying to fit as you can see the turbo inlet pipe goes 90 degrees up where as the 1 that suits the car goes straight

Someone was telling porkies

Your "replacement" engine comes from an early Classic impreza EJ20G (pre MY97) - hence your problems with turbo being top entry and the manifold not fitting (bolts holes in different places??)

You need a EJ205 engine

Thanks for you help im new to these engines.

The problem with the engine coming out is the cam seized so I have damaged head's and cam's.

So I have a set of spare heads from a turbo forester which i was going to use on my original bottom end but i have been told althought the heads are the same the cam's, srings etc are not the same.

so my question is can i use the cam's etc from the earlier engine in the forester heads? And then bolt them on the closed block? (If it is)

As we established in your earlier thread the bare forester heads are the same as the newage WRX (EJ205) ones, however the cams, valves, valve springs from an EJ20G are totally different and unlikely to fit the forester heads.

You would probably have been better off either buying the wrx heads you were offered or replacing the damaged parts so you could use the forester bottom end and build up the forester heads to wrx spec.

Standard open deck by the look of it, cant see any cross hatching to the left of the crank sensor or arch lines on the starter motor hump on the back of the bell housing.
Pic below shows cross hatching on the oil filter housing and top of crankcases
