Default Classic folding mirror, How to open/ remove glass

I need to open one of these to take a look at the fold motor. Has anyone removed the glass without breaking if so how did you do it.

Thanks

I believe you heat glass and mirror cones off that way. There are guides on scoobynet.

from memory you need to heat the black trim surrounding the glass, you can then fold trim back to release the glass.

When i did mine i ran it under warm water, its enough to allow the black lip to go supple and pop the glass out with a blade.

The motors in these have a constant voltage, there is a copper strip under the motor that stops it at its open and closed setting

Thanks for these suggestions. I think a clip has come off the pivot pin as I can lift the mirror up off the pin. Hence my need to take a look inside.

Same happened to my passenger side mirror - I took it to bits (broke mirror ) and then once I'd got the spring clip back on the hinge pin the motor gave up - threw it in the bin and picked up a pair off Ebay instead, it's pretty fiddly.
