Default Exhaust blowing black smoke

My car was stolen and recovered by the cops after a month .
Lots of body damage to be fixed.
The main issue is the exhaust blowing black smoke - I have been told it is over fuelling and not engine or turbo damage as no blue smoke.
But how can it over fuel , as I have a Link ECU , so the fuel is defined in the map?

Does't diesel chuck out white smoke in a petrol car?

Does the ECU have a OBDII socket for checking error codes? Could some sensor that's damaged knocking the fueling out.

Black smoke can also be sign of a boost leak, so check the pipework.

How did they steal it? How was it found and could the body damage have caused something to come loose
