Default UK Turbo 2000 Gearbox swapped

So i've found out my UK2000 has a TY752vb3FA which I think is from and import WRX. It should be a TY754VN3aa. I'm wondering why they swapped it for a 52? I thought the 54's were stronger. Maybe it's one they had to hand but they would have had to swap diff and shafts right?

Confused!

Only MY99 and 00 UK cars came with TY754 boxes which are the stronger boxes. Not sure if you are saying your Turbo 2000 is a MY00 or not (Turbo 2000 being the model name in the UK)

Yes it would have required a matching rear diff change if this is correct.

So yours would have had a TY754VN1AA but replaced by a MY96 JDM WRX box.
As you say, what was available at the time.

May have wanted to fit a rear LSD and needed the correct box/drop gears? But then, you'd still try to get a 754

Id say you have a better box with the 3fa, even though 754 boxes have 8 mounting bolts instead of the 4 of a 752 they still rip 3rd gear apart so really its a myth the 754 boxes are "stronger"

For the few hundred rpm increase and mpg with the 752 its a much more nipper box on that uk impreza you have
