Default Rattle/Knocking around 4000rpm

Hey there

my 02 sti makes some strange rattle or knocking noise when i get around 3800-4200rpm. Sometimes the sound stays to higher rpm.

Sounds somehow like a rod knock to me but it is only to hear a the engine goes to the written rpm. When the car is standing still i just can reproduce it sometimes a little bit when i floor the gas a few times.

Anyone a idea what that could be?

The belt tensioner can make a knocking noise if duff. Bit like rod knock as it happens. Hope it is for you.

I thought about the tensioner but if it's broken, wouldn't make it a sound/knock all the time even in idle?

Could be a lot of things tbh.
get a sound/vid clip up,might help?
rod knock is more noticeable at that rpm and more when lifting off.

No sorry, I don't have any media. I tryed to make a clip but it's nothing to hear because of the other noise like wind etc.

Maybe I can put a GoPro under the hood and try it again but atm the car is in the garage waiting to get the trunk painted.

Your last sentence makes me nervous because I can hear it best when accelerating to ~4000rpm and the change gear/lift the gas....

Btw sorry for my bad english!

Loose exhaust shield
loose spark plug
up pipe or exhaust gasket
intake manifold gasket
valve lash out

The list goes on really...

check everything you can and I would drop the oil and check it for bits of metal.
