Default dash alternator warning light

Car is a v4 98 sti, when you switch the ignition on should a light come on the dash showing the alternator before you start it? I cant remember and Im having trouble finding a dash clocks diagram, there is no light illuminating in my car.

Ive been having missfire issues and Ive replaced the alternator which was knackered, its kicking out between 13.2 and 13.5 volts now, should it be more?

If this light should illuminate and its not working will this affect alternator performance?

The v4 cluster looks the same as a v5/v6 cluster (dccd will look slightly different and UK clocks) with the exception of the wiring at the back. From what I know the alternator warning does not come on at start up.

Is this the v4 diagram you are after?

It was the warning light locations from the front I was after, when I put my ignition on I get the parking brake and oil pressure warning light coming on, once started the oil pressure goes out, Im just wondering if the battery warning light should illuminate before starting too, I read that theres a voltage goes from the clocks to alternator to get the alternator to work properly?

Yes you should have a battery light.
My classic alternator only charges at around about 13.2 ish

Ok Cool cheers im seeing 13.2 to 13.89 whilst driving, if Im driving and its 13.2 itll hover around this, if its 13.8 itll hover around this, its not constant, all voltages taken this afternoon so same load just different runs, I was just wondering if this wire from the dash does do anything other than just illuminate a bulb?

Ill order a new bulb in the mean time.

I can't remember whether it's a bulb or an led the v1/3 are bulbs but I thought I had a spare v4 cluster but it seems to have vanished.
I'll take a picture tomorrow if that helps.

Let the handbrake off put your seatbelt on start the engine and shut the door and you mightn't be too bad

Quick question for you mate is there a difference from the v4 to the v5/v6 on start up. I always assumed it was the same but I'm also thinking bulbs might be out ( car is also in bits and my memory isn't so good). Also on a UK car are the warning lights different. From what I know about the car the wiring is mainly original.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

V5/6 clocks are totally different plugs on the rear as are UK clocks. As for the light sequence I'm sorry I can't remember. There's an ABS light threw in somewhere to confuse things.
As are V3 and V4 clocks that's the change over from cable driven to electrical driven clocks at least on the JDM cars.

I know they changed the plugs, wasn't sure on the lights. Assuming the ABS lights and a few others are the same even if the car wasn't equipped with it.
