EJ205 Turbo - Should I always wait for a minute of idling before turn off?
Guys,
I just got my first Subaru and Turbo engine in my life. I am not a racer and not agressive driver at all, sometimes driving in 'grandpa' style
I am wondering if I can turn the engine off after not aggressive driving (with 3000rpm or lower) and not waiting for a minute of idling to get the turbo cooled down (not sure at what RPM it starts blowing)? Or I should just let it idle for a minute every time before I turn off the engine?
What is the recommendation?

Basically as your turbo is water cooled it cools itself down.

If you drive it hard yes you should, that info is talking about cooling down, which I've never heard of.
The main reason I've always known why you should let the car idle before turning off, was because of oil circulation in the turbo.
So if you've driven you Impreza hard, then shut the engine off, the turbo is left spinning, and your oil is no longer being pumped around the turbo. Causing wear/damage.
This can happen on any year Impreza, and only if driven hard.

I am not sure when turbo starts blowing, at what RPM, but driving in the city in traffic with RPMs up to 3000 (not higher) - is that considerable as 'not hard'?
Does 'hard' mean driving with RPMs around 5-6-7k?

In general, unless at a race track or as jaygsi , under most conditions you would "normally" drive the vehicle at a "moderate" speed before stopping and parking up.
In city traffic would not give it a thought.
The only reason for continuing to idle the engine would be for a non watercooled turbo where the oil would provide the cooling medium and help prevent carbonisation of the oil in contact with the hot components.

Yes up to 3,000 RPM isn't driving hard.
All i do if I do drive hard, Is for the last half a mile drive under 3,000 RPM, which isn't hard as the speed limit near me drops before I get home, so just gentle drive the last half a mile and pull in drive and turn straight off.
On my classic it gives you info on the passenger side sunvisor.
