Default Rust in the engine bay

Hi all I'm new here and well am thinking of buying a 1999 Turbo 2000 the car looks pretty clean as a whole its pretty standard with only very few mods and looks like a pretty good example however there seems to be a fair bit of surface rust on loads of component parts under the hood Should I be worried about this or is it a common problem ? If anyone can give me their thoughts please let me know is this a problem or is it really quite common on uk cars bearing in mind its a 1999 car !
Many thanks in advance for any opinions

Should the rust on parts of the pulleys and components here be a major concern ?

Rust on the components isn't a concern per se, as they aren't painted and are easily replaced. However, it is indicative of the car being exposed to damp/salt. I can though see rust on the passenger side inner wing on the photo. Assume that there is rot in all the usual places unless you can visually confirm that there isn't.

Well.... it IS after all a 23 year old car! Only a few years ago cars only lasted 10 years or so. By all means have a good look around, if a classic 23 year old car is what you want. Look. Up the mot history for advisories. Do your homework as to where the rot areas are - rear suspension turrets and rear arches are favourite places for the rust worm. Welding can be expensive! Some Scoobs can look pristine on top and be scrap yard candidates underneath, but this one might be sound, or not. It might have already been welded up to save it. Engine bay looks. well, VERY clean... too clean in fact for a 20+ year old car. Best not be dazzled by bolt-on goodies.
Do a search on this site for - rear turret rot ' to give you some ideas.
Mot history - do you know how to do that? You only need the reg then go on dvla site or Google dvla vehicle check history
