Over the past couple of days there has been a clicking noise when I switch the aircon on in my car (MY95 WRX). This morning it developed, I heard a loud screeching noise and then got a smell of burning rubber. It stopped when I pressed the button to off. I thought it was the belt breaking, so I pulled over to have a look. The belt is OK, I started the engine and everything goes round as it should with it switched off.

Not wanting to leave my car with the engine running and me not in it for more than a few seconds, I haven't looked at it again with the button pressed on so will have another look later tonight when I get home.

In the meantime, does anyone have any clues ? Is it possible that the pump could have seized up ?

Cheers

Ken
