which ECU wire
#1
Thanks Cube :-) - now you have got me really worried ! This whole area of which wire to cut is a bloody nightmare !
Edited to add, live from ciggie lighter, earth from cigie lighter (is likely to be why false reading ?) reading from white wire/silver bands from hole number 5 - closest to the floor ?
Somebody must have the answers ??
Please ?
Cheers

Definitely something not right. Should be like a mobile disco once the lambda has warmed up. The ecu feed should be the top row, fourth wire from the right (6th hole in the connector block as 2 don't contain wires) which is white/silver. Mine is blue full throttle, orange, green then blue on part throttle and sometimes blue on overrun. From what I understand the reading you are interested in is at full throttle ie showing blue. It does sound as if you have the wrong feed. I originally had a Dawes fitted and removed it. The only difference to the AFR was with the dawes it was showing red on part throttle. Let me know how you get on.
Ground wire connected to negative battery terminal as per the dawes instructions - some people say this doesn't matter but this is what the guy who builds them recommends so I followed his instructions

Hi I am trying to find out which wire on my ECU I need to solder/splice when fitting my Dawes AFR. My car is MY96 U.K turbo.
Any help greatly appreciated, can't find details of ecu map anywhere for this year -..... help please.
Otherwise will have to go through firewall and solder on to lamda sensor and reading John Banks theories about corroding wires has put me right off that idea.
Thanks in advance guys/girls.

Sorry to hijack the the thread, but I need exactly the same info for an MY97.
All the documentation I can find refers to connectors that are in a 3 or 4 pin high array, but my ECU connector is only 2 pins high
Thanks in advance.

You should have a copy shortly. I don't know if the ecu on a MY97 is the same as this, I know newer ones have different ecu's and the lambda connection is on a different pin (I've seen posts and pictures for those here - will be easier to find when the search is working). The picture I've sent certainly covers up to MY96, Just be careful that your ecu IS the same as older cars before you connect anything - you don't want to be connecting to the wrong thing and possibly cause expensive damage.

Martin,
thanks alot mate its now working well, slight heart attack when fitting though, the 5th wire in was white with silver lines, as you said ..... BUT after removing insulation tape some 2 inches down wire (to aid connection with AFR wire) I found that the base of the wire was actually grey with vertical white stripes ! and the white with silver rings was actually the inner wire running inside the grey wire .. oh shXX I thought (I must have the wrong wire, nearly put it all back together and said sod it! and to make matters worse, it was also connected to another grey (only) wire which entered the ecu directly below the said white/silver wire. Being as I was already down the root and had connectors/solder at hand took the chance ..... and ha ha it worked. I just wondered if you or anybody else has heard/seen this ..... please let me know its not just me with a funny ecu, or heart attack type wires ?
The light is supposed to shine bright blue ? isn't it :-)
Cheers

I'm not sure what is beyond the silver and white wire as I made my connection to it, very near to the connector going into the ECU (didn't venture any further down the wire. It was also several months ago so I don't remember what other wires would be there (maybe someone reading this could clarify use of the grey and white wire). Yes I get a bright blue light on full throttle and on liftoff. The others flash occasionally on partial throttle before I'm blinded by the blue LED again. Does yours dim at night? I thought they were supposed to but mine stays the same intensity as in daylight (must look like a mobile disco from the outside).

DodgeT & Famouscoops you should have mail

Martin the dawes AFR does have a light sensitive bit, the black thing on the side but this is to make the leds brighter in direct sunlight so you can still see them, I don't think it supposed to get darker at night. Hope this helps

Thanks for that Marc. Mine just seems to have one setting - very bright, which is fine during the day but at night is is quite dazzling. Looks like my only solution will be to reposition it on the dash.

After having fitted for several days, I am now wondering if it is working correctly, as blue stays on enitre time as soon as ignition is on and does not light up any of the other leds, even under full throttle, mind I have not yet fitted Dawes device, so should it really be reading anything other than blue if car is set up right ??
Anybody else got similar ?
Cheers
Steve
Martin - have you got dawes device fitted ? is that why other lights are lighting up ?

No, this is definitely not right.
On mine, the red and orange flicker ocasionally during normal cruise and part throttle driving, sometimes no lights at all.
On WOT all will light rapidly in sucession and the blue then stays on.
You should see the same effect again when lifting off but the blue only lights momentarily.
Check your wiring again.

see what i mean, i dont wanna refit mine until i know exactly which wire to fit it to.
surely if someone who has fitted theres & it works, cant you say for example;
if you take the bottom yellow connector block out, it narrows it down to 4 or 5 wires on the top row, what position (hole wise regardless of whether it has a wire or not to account for differences in ecus) & colour. Cant be simpler than that!
+ what my??
+ do you peel the screen back to reveal the inner core?? etc..

you want a job doing................
done it!
this is for a my94 uk turbo;
pull off the bottom of the large yellow connector blocks from the ecu.
looking at the top row of holes/wires, count in six holes (from left or right & you'll end up with the same position), it should be a pinky/white wire with a silver stripe, VOILA!!
Its like blackpool friggin illuminations now, flashes through the colours as you accelerate until hitting blue on full throttle, part throttle seems to get orange, while very light throttle throws up the red, is this normal???
anything like half to full throttle gets the blue every time(running 18psi fully decat)
ps. got it mounted under the a pillar boost gauge, but had to tilt it up, those led's are pretty damn bright!
