I would say my car is running a wee bit below par
I have an MY00, brown 801 ECU, Scoobysport backbox but apart from that it's standard (17" wheels, boost gauge though). Car had done 23K miles and is due it's 2 year service in 2 months time.
I have been noticing of late I have a momentary stutter around 2800 revs in all gears. This was not the case initially when I had the ECU swapped. Once past this all seems OK. Seemed to run much better for about 3 weeks with new ECU then start the stutter.
Also on Sunday fully loaded (3 adults, 1 baby, lots of luggage) with roof box, accelerating up a hill in 5th gear from 50-75 ish the car did not accelerate smoothly.
Boost did not seem to be fluctuating (holding around 13-14 psi) but it did not pick up smoothly rather it was juddering somewhat. Rather like I was pumping the accelerator. It is very mild but I can feel it.
I can feel it (just) in all gears but in 5th from 60 upwards the most.
I have recently been running the car on Optimax and have filled up 6-7 times. I would say the stutter at 2800 was there before but this is the first time I have felt the juddering at full boost in 5th. I tried to recreate it the last day but although I could feel something similar as I was the ony person in the car I probably was not subjecting the same strains on turbo/engine as when fully loaded.
Any ideas or any help would be greatly appreciated. If no one has any ideas I s'pose I could mention it to the dealer when I get the car serviced (no idea how much use they will be though?).
Thanks in advance,
Doofus.

Thanks dnb,
If someone else (non scooby spotter) was to drive my car I don't think they'd notice much.
My wife in the passenger seat said she felt it after I'd mentioned I though 'Hamish The Wagon' was running a bit rough. I think everybody knows their own car and can tell when it's having a bit of an off day.
Would the spark plugs also account for the 2800K stammer ??? Can you describe how yours felt ???
Thanks for your help.

It's difficult to describe exactly - the "problems" were very small. Nic. didn't notice them at all!
Mine idled slightly roughly - wasn't detectable on the rev counter, it just didn't seem as smooth as it used to do, and while there was boost, it wouldn't pick up quickly - seemed to take its time getting to 3000 RPM. There was a very slight flat spot at about 3000 just before the boost cut in, so I suppose it could account for the stammer, but I'm not really sure - changing the plugs does disturb quite a lot of engine!
I'm reasonably sure the service (and select monitor session maybe) will solve your problems

All hoses/clips look to be fine.
Idle does seem 'slightly' rough. I'm putting in more fuel today so will report whether this makes any difference, if not I may take it up to my dealer and get someone out to have a looksie .. I can always have the service done early if the spark plugs need replacing (no harm in that .. apart from my pocket 30K service, ouch).

Filled up in busy station this morning with Optimax ... seems to be a wee bit better but I can still detect almost like a pulsing sensation when accelerating hard uphill with WOT .. very slight but I can feel it.
See ECU reset query thread for more ..

Have a look at this thread. It sounds as though you are having the same problem as me. Also do a search for Hesitation
Good luck in finding the problem...............

Aside from plugs, you might also try the grounding mod. Those of us in the US have been debating this one a lot, but it might help. Here's an excerpt:
-------quote-------
For anyone with a scope (who would actually like to SEE the affects of the grounding mod, instead of BSing about whether or not it works), keep an eye on the noise induced near the alternator while revving the engine. Now add a wire from the intake manifold to the negative terminal of the battery and do the same thing. Move that wire from the left side of the manifold to the right, and notice the difference. Now just run a wire from the left side to the right side, and watch the noise across it. Regrounding the fender, near the strut towers, and the firewall don't have any affect (despite what's on scoobymods), but by adding two wires, one from the left side of the manifold (factory ground point) and one from the right (also a factory ground point) to the negative terminal on the battery, my acceleration cleaned up a lot, as well as every other car I've seen it done on first hand.
Unfortunately, my scope is pretty old, and I can't store the plots and post them (once I disconnect it, the results are gone), but if anyone has access to some equipment, I would suggest verifying that it helps on your own, instead of listening to the people posting here (myself included).
And to add one more comment, I did this months ago and the problem hasn't come back.

A few searches on i-club can yield a LOT of results both pro and con on this mod and its effectiveness. I personally have done it on my USDM '02 WRX, and did feel an improvement. However, I do not have a scope, so I cannot back that up. Total cost for me was under $20USD, so what do you have to lose? Being tricked into thinking it's fixed is almost as worthwhile as having it actually fixed... Ignorance is bliss.

Many small problems tend to makes a large effect.
Will be doing the earth mod - (grounding and ECU) doing an oil change and cleaning out all the pipework on Saturday. One of them is bound to do something!

Latest update .. so bringing this TTT.
Ran a few more tanks of Optimax through before (from places like Aberdeen, Keith, Rosyth, Edinburgh bypass). I am convinced you can get BAD tankfuls. The car was running much better with Optimax from Rosyth than Aberdeen, I could still just feel the hesitation though.
I had my 30K 2 year service (413 pounds ) yesterday. Problem sorted ... car is now running sweet as a nut. Pity that I couldn't trace the problem down to once specific thing though.
The Subaru service guy did say that my spark plugs 'didn't look to clever ' so that may have been the cause, cheers for your help guys
Well happy although skint !

Just something to watch out for (but you obviously are already ) - the slight jerking around the spool-up (2800rpm) & slightly iffy idle CAN be the MAF - although as the problem seems to have gone, it might not be. But it might just be being covered up from the service... but at least they're cheap to change these days
