Sport Steering Wheel - Can I change it?
#1
Having just purchased a Scooby Sport (99) I would be intested to know if anyone has any experince of changing the sterring wheel for something more sporty!
Having spoken to Midland Impreza they think it would be possibe to fit a WRX type steering wheel but aren't sure. Also if it did fit they couldn't guarantee the air bag light wouldn't be permanently on!
Anyone out there have experince of changing one of these things - I hope so as the wheel fitted as std would be more at hom on a bus!

I fitted a Momo onto mine. Had to get adaptor too (all from Halfords). There's a bit of cutting around on the wiring & you lose the air bag & horn, but it's worth it. The air bag look's like it belongs in a Cavalier & if you need the airbag you deserve a cavalier. I moved the horn swith onto a paddle (flaher) type switch.

You're right, airbag light is always on & for MOT I simply cover it with masking tape (crued but cheap & effective).
The horn is legal as long as it's easily accessible & it works (so I was told) & it is & does.
Mine went through MOT no problem.
You'll probably find a better adaptor boss if you hunt around that would allow normal horn location. Someone on here must know of one.

I'm hoping to get in sorted sooner rather than later as you say it would be more at home on Cavalier. I spoke with Midland Impreza today and they said that thyey can fit a used WRX sports wheel with for £250 but can't guarantee the light would not stay on so I think I might be driving down to Nuneaton in the next week or so to get one fitted.

Remove the bag at your peril!
I also believe insurance company would not be too chuffed to learn you have removed the air bag and you might find it difficult to claim for the face reconstruction!
