What is error code 12 on a MY99 Sport?

Cheers Harvey,
I've got the 37500 (My first) service due and i am going to query the following:
Exhaust blowing?
Something vibrating at certain revs (Heatshield?)
Sounds like a fifteen year old fiesta (Engine doesn't sound as smooth/quiet as it used to?? - Could this be Piston Slap?)
However...Car starts fine
Could you please give me a step by step guide to doing the reset as i've only just got the ***** to do the diagnostic check!
Although i am learning more and more about how the car works via the internet/scoobynet if u like. I have little confidence when it comes to "Messing with it"
Cheers, Paul

Piston slap is a regular ticking type noise which usually disipates as the engine warms up and alloy pistons reach working tolerance. It can be evident on new engines particularly those with large tolerances and short skirt pistons such as race engines.
You may not have piston slap and even if you do it MAY not be detrimental.
To reset ECU:Connect the test mode and read memory pairs of connectors, greens and blacks. Found around the same area by the steering colunmn under the dash.
Ign On
CEW is on.
Full throttle then release to half for a couple of seconds and release completely.
Start engine.
CEW shows fault code. Confirm fault.
If no trouble code drive normally at over 11kph for several mins until engine reaches normal operating temp.
CEW will show fault code or OK=.5sec regular flashes.
Ign off and disconnect two pairs of connectors.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

Fault hasn't returned since doing the reset..Just flashes at 1/2 second intervals now so i assume this means everything is A-OK. Still doesn't sound like it used to though :-( , Perhaps i'll dig out my minidisc recorder later and post a sound file to see what u guys think.
