Unhappy

Hi,
Sti7 done 5000 miles now and has developed a very annoying rattle from around my drivers side door area.
Every time I go over a rough bit of road of bumps etc it develops a type of rattle.
I have taken front door panel off and tightend everything I saw but it still does it.
Tried opening window fully stil does it.
Any one got any clues?

anything in the pillar between front and rear door that can rattle?

or anyone got any clue how to track this down as it's driving me nuts.

cheers,,

Dave.

From Steves link I remembered also that the drivers door doesnt seem to quite line up, as if it pulls up slightly when closing. Perhaps there's a link??

Dave,

I have exactly the same problem. Drives me up the wall on a long journey.

Dealer has stated that it WILL be fixed at the next service, and stated it was a common fault in the drivers side / front and rear doors.

Sorry I cannot help any more.

The problem and fix described on http://pictures-scoobynet.tripod.com/ was not the same as the problem I had with my STi7.

Their was a creaking sound when the chassis was under stress (bumps , tight corners) at the bottom of the right hand side B-pillar. We searched everywhere and couldn't figure out where exactly the noise was coming from. I was convinced it was two body panels rubbing together and eventually IHI in Japan in Japan replied to our emails with a picture and a fix. They had started fixing the problem in the factory, but the first batch STi's had this problem. The noise came from the ends of the body panels at the bottom of the B-pillar. You need to remove the plastic cover over the B-Pillar in order to get to the bottom of the Pillars. The spot welding of the panels on either side at the bottom of the B-pillar does not go all the way to the ends of the panels and the ends of the panels touch and rub together when the chassis is stressed. The fix is to lever the ends of the panels away from each other with a flathead screwdriver. A knock from a hammer may be required. I unfortunately do not have the pictures from Japan anymore, but it should be relatively simple to fix from my instructions.

I have a similar creaking coming from the rear now having cured the front rattle. It sounds like the tailgate, anyone else had this ?

Well this is going to be fun with all these fixes.
It is so hard to work out where it is coming from.
Yes it does sound like stress on the body causing it,but also sounds like a sort of rattle.

Rang up My local Subaru garage but as usual they had never heard of it, then again I new more about the STI7 before they even did.
Got mine in February so would it have been one of the early models?

Yes, I got my car in December 2001 (We got the STi 7 in South Africa before you chaps got yours in the UK), It was only in late April 2002 when FHI sent us pictures about the fix.

I will take some digital photos of the fix on the weekend and try and post them on the weekend.

I also remember a thread on here about a broken weld in the roof at the top of the B pillar
