What MY is your car? The early cars with a hot wire MAF don't suffer with induction kits the way that the later cars do with the 2film" type MAF. Sorry, don't know when they changed, though I'm sure someone on here will

The MAF changed for the phase2 engined MY99+ cars. This is supposed to be the weaker one. I have on my MY99, and lots of others have too, used a 57i K&N induction for ages with no problems.............

Just replaced a K+n panel filter with a 57i kit on MY94 WRX. The 57i kit is much more noisier (but nice!!) and seems to give much better response, looks cooler and works better than panel filter due to the restrictivness of an air box compaired to a cone filter!!

The only way the air box can be better is when the engine is warm (eg in traffic jams etc) the air is thinner in the engine bay and a cone filter will suck that air in which results in a loss of power. But Hey how long are you stuck in traffic!!!!!!

Once your moving the air cools and jobs sorted

Hope this helps!!!

I have just taken an HKS off my car - there were several teaspoon fulls of dirt trapped in the elbows of the inlet pipe - so go knows what actually got through into the turbo/engine.

Won't be using HKS again.

Oh, and my MAF sensor is buggered - probably battered to death with all the detrititus going straight through the filter.

I've had a K&N induction kit on my car (MY01) for a far few thousand miles now in all sorts of different weather conditions, so far no issues.

Before that it had sat on Chuckster's old MY01 (before he went Audi) for 6k miles (which I still owe him for).

A seemingly a solid piece of kit. I had heard stories about other induction kits (like the one above) so I avoided them. I know of some people that run HKS without issue, but then I didn't want to risk the 01's flimsy MAF sensor!

Good noises from the K&N as well!

I've just had a car in today with the first maf failure that I've seen with the K&N 57i kit.
Because of this we are now removing it from our product line. The only system we now sell for the 99 on and the WRX (new model) is our own custom setup.
