Mine sounded horribly tappy after a service at Subaru once....

only to find out that some dork had used castrol SLX 0W-30

This was soon changed for a thicker oil Motul 15W-50 and problem was solved!
Now sounds sweet as a nut!

agree with plums,sounds like the oil is too thin.

 

yeah if its that cheap @! Shell Helix Ultra as used in World Rally Cars (yeah right Subaru). but should go away when its warmed up

 

I dont think theres anything to worry about! Most Japanese performance cars make the same noise. It comes from the injectors. You should hear scoobs with 770cc injectors! Almost sounds like a diesel.

Mine does it too, quite worrying sound isn't it? Seem to go ok though Does anyone know how you can post an audio file coz we could compare these noises and see if we are all talking about the same one. If anyone knows, could they mail me please.
