Im trying to identify my ECU its got a label on the outside cover saying U8
ive taken the cover off and inside it says on the circuit board "JECS" and it also says this on a lot of the chips, theres a separate board withe 2 large chips and 3 small chips and this board is removable by simply pulling it apart from the main board, it has push fit pins which connects it to the main board, on one of the large chips its got writtenin someones handwriting "IMPU8-06.MM" does any one know what this means and do you think it is original or aftermarket??????????? my94 WRX

it sounds like one of the early WRX ecus, Tone Loc on here has one too.
THe roms hold the ecu program code, and you can modify the data to "remap" the ECU.
see the "DIY ECU Remap project" in the drivetrain forum.
