Thats running with an external map, split into odd and even bytes... you can buy a similar board from me and some others and remap it...

Would be interesting to see what map it has on it if you fancy lending it to me? I can lend you a different board in the mean time if you want... see our site at www.scoobyecu.co.uk

It could be a Power & Engineering Phase 1, but from what I have heard it doesnt look like one of theirs... these boards are also available from japan...

Ecu is std... Running on external chip thats all..

Have a look to the bottom left of the board (on the main ecu) there is a resistor marked either L1 or J1 has this been snipped, if so then it is external map, if its still connected, or reconnected then its internal map..

Okay, that's an after market ECU.

I suspect it's a Mines ECU, but it could be a home brew job, using either a Grid or Techtom board.

The extra chip is I suspect a NOT gate, which allows the use of 256kbit eproms.

The eprom devices should have a 27CXXX code on them, where XXX is I suspect 256, but possible 512.

Yes we can remap it, in fact we can probably do a pair of eproms and send them in the post for you to fit. The only issue is our board uses 512kbit eproms, which is easier, so I for one don't have any 256kbit parts. But they're easy to get, I might be able to get some free samples from somewhere.

Thought you might...

Scoobybuz, the Jap maps I have seen thus far aren't all they are cracked up to be. It's probably well worth your while to tweak it, if nothing else, you should be safer with UK fuel with an alternative ignition map.

Where in the country are you?

I think there are good gains to be made.

check out this comparison:
http://dyno.scoobynet.co.uk/uk/mark_sleap.htm

Difficult to know what you're got till I see the maps.

As for remapping a PE phase 1, I suspect they use a scrambler chip to you can't just replace the roms. However I'm not sure the scrambler boards were available back then.

If it's a pre 97 ecu, it would be just as easy to put a new board in. I can read the map that's on the ecu by downloading it throught the select monitor port.

Pavlo

I have a similar board in my car which seems to over boost in 5th at about 90 - 100 MPH (on a track day of course ).

Can you do anything with this to stop it?

so does this mean my ecu is the same as say a link ecu or not, does my car have to be on a rolling road to be set up or is it a question of just pluggin in a new chip and away i go?

Hi Guy's,

Just spotted this one and yes as said before this looks like an aftermarket ECU adaptor of similar fashion to what we can supply (see http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=119754.

I cracked open an ECU today from a 95WRX and that too had an adaptor board fitted. This was running a peak target boost of 16.5psi. The adaptor board itself was marked Prova 02 which leads me to believe it is from the Japanese tuning company 'PROVA'.

This board also had the extra chip fitted, but I didn't remove the EPROM labels hence could not tell what devices were fitted.

This was also a Black PCB so is not the same as your's although yours may of been an earlier version. Maybe Prova 01.

Is it socketed to the main board or is it soldered in.

If it is socketed you could remove it, rejoin link 'J1' and send the board to one of us for checking/remapping.

i.e myself or Paul can plug it into our ECU and download the map to see what your's is actually doing.

As Paul said some of the Japanese Maps seem a bit hit and miss with what they have changed. Although the Prova Map I got today is somewhat better than a JUN map we already have.

If you do decide to send the board of you will have to run standard 11.5psi until it's retuned tho' which will be a bit of a downer......(possibley)

Oops, just waited for all the pictures to download and saw that it is socketed.

It also looks like J1 has been removed rather then cut, so you would have to place a link on J1 to run from the standard Map (I have placed a switch on my center console to switch between Standard and my Stage 2 Map).

Dean,

Overboost shouldn't be a problem we can just up the fuel cut limit another 0.5-1psi, that should sort it.

What PSI are you running, as the MAP sensor has limitations, and the reading from this is what the ECU uses to control when fuel-cut occurrs.

Scott

I haven't got a boost gauge in the car but i think it is running 1.15 bar.

Any ideas on cost of sorting it out for me.

Also scott, can you e-mail me has i have got some other requests on another ECU which runs a restrictor on the turbo.

Thanx

DG,

You can measure the voltage from the MAP sensor at the ECU input with a digital Voltmeter. This should give you a good idea of what boost it's running.

Connection at ECU is B43 Pin 4

if i put a switch in between where the J1 was cut would that bypass the ext board, and by flicking the switch ,is actualy the same as cutting the J1 connection again hence enable the ext board

Scoobybuzz...

Yep, you got it. But it's not advisable IMO to switch it when driving. Best to only switch it with the ignition off.

There was talk on some older sites that it may damage/corrupt the ECU map if switched on the move.

I have switched with it ticking over and the revs rose about 500rpm then settled back. On one instance the Check Engine light came on momentarily but no faults were logged.
