I have a my98 UK with very little mods and i think i am getting det at about 4800 rpm as it makes what seems to sound like pinking or rattleing. Will octain booster or optimax sort it or how do i re-set ecu.

It mosy likely is det then. DONT let it do it. Find out why its doing it and fix it. may be overboost, weak mixtures, poor fuel various things. Get it sorted, before you need the engine sorted.

Keep below 3000 RPM and no boost whatsoever until you get it checked. As Stevie says don't mess about. Failed MAF sensor is another possibility. Turn the AVC off or remove or turn it down to minimum possible boost in case you get carried away with the right foot until it is looked at. Using the AVC means the ECU cannot kill the boost when it sees detonation so potentially very dangerous indeed.

Mart mate, Resetting the ECU can be done just by leaving the battery disconected for a while. Flat battery or whatever qwill reset your ECU. 8 hours disconection over night would sort it. Has it just started or got worse over time???
Supermarket fuel?
Never the less we can get it checked at Jap tuning on Sat. C U there

I've always thought that pinking was a really distinct sound. The only thing it sounds like in my head anyway is jangling keys on a metal plate.
Happens when the motor is under load

I think I may be getting DET aswell as when in the IOM at the wekend I filled up with std super unleaded (Total) and started to notice a bit of pinking (DET)
Now running on Optimax as usuall but still notice it a bit when pulling from low revs in high gear.
Car is a 2001 WRX and has SS full de-cat system would this be the cause of it as the Lambda sensor is sort of bypassed by the SS fix and cannot detect the correct settings.
Thinking of putting back the downpipe cat to rectify , but will loose out on power. Cannot afford to re-map at present.
Any ideas?
