Hi,
does anyone know which turbo is fitted to the 92 uk legacy turbo?
Is it a TD12?
How does this differ in size/ boost capability to a TD04?
What is a suitable legacy turbo upgrade?
Anyone any ideas?
Cheers
Rich

It is an IHI VF12.
Quite laggy, not bad for boost.
Good power upgrade is a TD05, which is what I am doing.
But a TD04 with an elbox would be good if it was regular family car.

I think the VF12 is as laggy as a TD05, but not as good for boost, although I suspect this could be down to a weak actuator.
I can get 1.3bar no trouble at 4000rpm, but it dies away at high rpm. The actuator gives only 5psi boost if connected directly, so I think this could be the problem.
If my mum drove it, I would put the td04 in, and put an apropriate boost control map in the car (or dawes). But if you are looking to get 300hp then the TD05 is the kiddie, as it has the elbow already in place, but again you would need an ECU update or Dawes device.

TD05 fits straight on with no probs. Its no laggier than the VF12, and much better mid-top end. Not sure what the std boost control would end up with, as Im using a Blitz SBC. DOnt think it would be anything to worry about though if swapping.
Legacy RS, jap spec cars have a IHI VF14, which is slightly bigger than the UK spec turbo. Not sure how it compares with a TD05, as the car was never driven with the original turbo when it was bought.
