tech 2.5
#2
have a tech2 on my scoob and i keep seeing this 2.5 business can anyon tell me what this is
i know what a tech 3 is i think
the thing is since i had the tech2 done i have had a cold air kit fitted and a turbo to maf housing pipe fitted and i am sure the car is running a little leaner as not so many pops and bangs due to more air getting into it and it definatly feels quicker
also the knock link lights up 1 green on full boost for a few seconds in top gear which i know is safe but it didn`t do before
as you can imagine i want the car to be safe so can this tech 2.5 help

Tek3 is the custom ECUTEK mapped to your car in situ.
Tek2.5 isn't AFAIK an "offical" ECUTEK product, rather one that a custom Tek3 mapper can do to tweak a Tek2 to improve the boost on a full decat car.
If you have extra tweaks such as Intercooler and induction mods then you may be better off with a Tek3 mapped to your car.

Yep - Tek 2.5 is John's little baby - but I'm not sure what qualifies a tek 3 from a tek 2.
A Tek 2 is bought as standard map without any teaking/mapping to the specific car.
When John put the Tek 2.5 into my car we then spent some time playing with the boost, etc to match my car (which has no mods - but each car will be slightly different). So, does that make it a Tek 3 as it has been changed for my car?
Is any custom map a Tek 3? Wonder what the cross over line is.
Richard.

it sounds like to me it should be called a tech2jb
and it actually is a tech3 but john banks doing it
john are you out there at the moment can you email me costs etc..
before the above mods i had 285bhp with full decat k&n (including the tech2 done by p.e.)
and where abouts in scotland are you

You might want to be rather careful with a cold air induction kit & air inlet - I had the same and it was running very lean - down to about 3% CO at spool-up which isn't good, and erratic knock higher up. I suspect that the cold weather is protecting you somewhat, but you may want to get on with the re-map ASAP!
Which cold air induction kit, btw?

Maybe I can help with this confusion. I wanted a TEK3 and was going to drive from Bristol to Edinburgh to get John to do it for me. I'd known John from previous visits to Edinburgh and prefered him to map my car Oh and I paid for a TEK 3
I decided that a long trip to Edinburgh, just for the sake of a remap was silly, so John and I discussed the idea of him doing the map, and me logging it when it was on the car, emailing the results back to him!! I did this with delta dash. John mapped what he thought would work best for my car, ITG, Full Scoobysports, Optimax etc and sent the first ECU to me. The idea was to log it, see where it could be improved and post the ECU back and forward until we had it just right.
My idea of him lending me the software and him remotely mapping it with PC Anywhere was dismissed as too complex I thought it would be really cool.
When I fitted the TEK 2.5 (my fault it's been labelled this, as I posted on here about it, and thought a TEK 2.5 was good, as it's not quite a TEK 3) emailed the results to John he was very impressed with the log, we decided that further development of my map, should be a visit to finish it off and gain the few extra BHP that may be able to be gained!!
Basically the TEK 2.5 was better (few extra tweeks) than a TEK 2, and have shown my car to two people that have TEK 2s and they want to migrate over to a TEK 2.5.
I hope this helps, but don't really understand all the technicalities of remapping so guess this will be added later
Cheers Phill C
PS Had it three to four month now and am well pleased
PPS On a safety not, I have delta dash (as mentioned before) a Dawes AFM, and am just about to get a knocklink, and I got Defi's with a EGT meter. It all confirms my car is running soooo sweeet

Disclaimer: I asked John this very question and have gave the following response. The information is second hand and may be wrong so please wait till you get the official answer from him
Tek2 is simple, designed by ECUTEK the ECU is reflashed to it's specification and you drive away a happy bunny.
Tek3 is a custom remap where John and co. will sit and adjust things to suit the specific requirements of the individual car based on the mods to it.
Tek2.5 is johns personal adaptation of Tek2. I think John found that when remapping cars for TEK 3 more often than not they had similar mods, full decat, filter but still original intercooler and critically original turbo. Accordingly he came up with Tek2.5 which is a john's custom mapping of TEK2 which happens to suit 90% of the cars he put it into. In my case after my car was remapped to Tek2.5 he felt subtle adjustment could be made and altered some stuff, I assume this really means I have a tek3.
Again, I may have mixed some stuff up here peeps so don't shoot me if I'm wrong. John I'll edit anything you wish edited

so keep all this info coming
tom
i have a home made affair it is 89mm inside diameter samco hose styraight off the maf housing with a 90 degree bend and more hosing with a k&n induction on the end with it terminating behind where the orange grill used to be

My car is booked in at Power Engineering in a couple of weeks for the TEK2. They are going to be putting my car on the rolling road and setting it up for me.
Does this mean I will be getting a 2.5 as I am not simply plugging in the remapped ECU and driving off?
It must mean something as I am being charged a fair ammount more than the standard plug in and play price.

i got the tech 2 and it cost £600 + vat that was just for fitting the reprogrammed ecu and putting it on the rolling road at P.E.
yeh it was expensive for the exchange ecu and fitting but it was worth it from 259bhp with a dawes to 285bhp and very smooth
the thing is it is supply and demand you have to pay the going rate
i think the cost of just supplying the ecu is £500 +vat so i paid £100+vat for fitting not really that bad for this type of thing
you wont regret it

I had a ECUTEK 2.5 from John a few weeks ago. I have full decat TSL exhaust and K&N Panel filter.
So far, impressed with ECUTEK, no problems, but thinking of buying Knocklink to play it safe and monitor for any likely Det problems.
Ideally I would go for a TEK 3 with John (long drive from Lincolnshire to Edinburgh for me though), but I think if you have standardish mods (Exhaust/filter) and monitor boost, and possibly fuelling and/or knock (using knocklink) it should be OK
Boost increased from 15psi with full decat to just over 17psi with ECUTEK.
Up to now car running Sweeeetttt
Go on, you know you want it!!

Travis, I'd say judging by your mods there is little else John would do to your car over the TEK2.5 He'd maybe make some subtle admendments to suit your individual cars characteristics but you'd be unlikely to notice any difference at all. As I said, I think John devised the 2.5 as a sort of mini-tech 3, one size fits all programme. Obviously if you had a big turbo or something like that he'd play around a lot to get things just right but 2.5 seems to be spot on for most full decat cars.

I don't know who 'coined' the prase TEK2.5 (Oh! re-read it and it was Babber!) but it's not only John who can tweak the TEK2 map, I got mine done by Bob Rawle in Swindon, I asked for the mid range boost to be increased and also for the boost targets to be stretched futher up the rev range. From memory mid range target is now 17PSI or thereabouts and upper rev boost targets all shifted up by 500RPM or so.

Such tweeking would constitute a TEK3 would in not?? I think the 2.5 is John's adaptation of the 2 which he came up with after countless 3's that all ended up being about the same (i.e 2.5) That probably doesn't make sense to you but it does to me...so

Missed this post as I was in Greece mapping Yes blame Babber for everything I am not very good at giving them all names. I don't do Tek 1 or 2. I do custom mapping where needed if someone comes to see me or send out a standard map (which has been dubbed Tek 2.5) to MY99/00 UK cars with decat.
Some understandably are very reluctant to send out postal maps since you never know what the car at the other end is like and if there are any faults. Hence I recommend either Deltadash, and/or a knocklink and boost gauge, especially if it is used with a Dawes.
BRD and GGR also do custom mapping.

have been looking at the tek2 for an MY00, Scoobysport downpipes and backbox with ITG Panel filter.
am i much better off going for john's 2.5, or is it only really worth while if I go for further mods?
