I have a FMIC because I am a boost junkie and things were getting a bit hot. I always use the excuse when upgrading a turbo that I am doing it to only maintain present levels of perforamance but do it more safely. This noble resolve lasts about 2 minutes I try to be more sensible with other people's cars though

You could upgrade the turbo to one of Mark's TD04 or VF hybrids - all are good just choose your lag: power ratio and £££/££££.

FMICs settle at about the £1000 mark. Hyperflow, APS, HKS, Blitz and Pace seem popular.

ECUs - you could use your standard ECU and monitor with a knocklink and AFR, and use a fuel cut defender. Or you could go for an ECU option - Unichip, Link, Ecutek, MoTeC, Autronic, GEMS, PowerFC, FCON - all have advantages/disadvantages and no one is "better" than all the rest - each having applications in different cars with different mods and user preferences.

For example - JECS (Ecutek) restricts your sensible choice of induction kits which means choosing your FMIC/induction carefully.

Was wondering what turbo and FMIC i should buy for my MY99 RB5! I do not know much about the upgraded components and would like advice from people who do

How much power would each upgrade give my car?

The car already has:

Scoobysport Downpipe
ITG airfilter
Prodrive WR Backbox
Dawes Device

Thanks guys

Can't help you with the FMIC bit much, but for the turbo it's a great deal of compromises. The point to start with is how much power you want, and then work back from there. A lot of power is more likely to produce lag, for example; also, do you want the lots of torque mid-range or power at high rpm; the lists go on... The map applied can change these somewhat.
Anyway. Start with deciding what you want, then go from there

John Banks is yer man for that sort of question He's had at least two hybrids

I'm not sure a FMIC will give you an increase in power just on it's own as John himself wasn't convinced it was worthwhile over his TMIC. I'm sure he'd explain what convinced him otherwise.

Wink

You could try Scoobymania for a FMIC kit as they do them (hks i think?) but id expect most tuners to do some sort of FMIC now.
