Guys and Girls

I could really do with some help. I've had this problem for about a month now and still haven't managed to fix it.

I've got a 93 k WRX and it's got the following engine mods on it.
ARC induction kit
Iridium Plugs (Changed recently)
Blitz Dump Valve
Scorpion Downpipe & Midsection
BPM Twister 3 Backbox
Dash 33 Actuator

Funnily enough my motor was over boosting (mainly the last 2 engine mods).

I fitted a HKS FCD this did not help, so I got a SUPERCHIP fitted. Still seems to be over boosting but can't be as the defence to this is removed when a Superchip is fitted and as you can imagine I'm running out of ideas.

The time it cuts is when boost reaches about 0.9 Bar. When it cuts the revs just drop dead like when the ignition is switched off.

If any one has had this problem or has any ideas then that would be a great help, otherwise I'll be taking a trip to Goode and plugging it into a Select Monitor.

Many Thanks

Dan

Could also be a faulty coil as said.

Check this out. All you need to know about checking your coils. Pictures too.

Question

Tried that, sort of!

At low revs - typically between 1200 - 2300 in 5th if you put your foot on the deck it doesn't miss and that's typically what would happen if the packs were gone - wouldn't it?

Anyones input is most appreciated!

Red face

Id remove the supercr@p, oooops sorry superchip and put your normal ecu back in and see if it continues to behave in the same manner.
(just for the record, alot of people dont like running superchips due to the ammount of engine failures that followed when said chip was used as a replacement to the original ecu).

Could try closing the plug gap a bit to see if that has any effect.
Worth a bash, it's free! I take it you've done the under dash connector thing and cleaned the actuator restrictor/ pipework and boost solenoid? Oil level isn't too high is it? A bit more info on what's already been done might help.

Oil level is about 1/2 a mm under full, all pipes and solenoids are clean and actuator is new, along with spark plugs. The problem was there before the Superchip was fitted, and I know about superchips and Scoob's, I'd have rather had it mapped correctly but places like Graham Goode and Power Engineering didn't want to map a '93 car as it's a bit old.

Keep em comin!

And thanks for the input.

Have you tried the MAF sensor?

Ive got an MY 93 'k' wrx ...no mods, and ive been getting what appeared to be a cutout/ missfire under full load.... just replaced the MAF and things appear to be alot better.... just need to try the foot into the carpet'final test..

Good luck

So have you checked the flash codes? If these show all clear, I'd go for the coil packs...do you know anyone with the same motor you could swap them over on, they're a bit pricy just to splash out on, on the off chance they are the problem. To be honest, these are favourite to be the cause given the age of your motor.

MAF sensor and coil packs it is then, I'll have a go and let you know. Won't be for a few days yet though

Thanks to all!

If anyone else has any ideas - cool!

probably coil packs, they would only show up as revs rose ... try closing the plug gaps up to about 0.6mm, if it improves its the coil packs

Damn ................. i tried the foot to caret test, and im still having prob's, but also i notice now that boost stops at 0.5bar, instead of 0.8 ..

Looks like i try the coil packs...

I did a resistance check , mine measured 1.1. but according to the info on the thread link, the suggestion is around 0.8 ...

New coil packs i think.!!

And when it is a coil pack it is normally the back left one (when sitting in the car).

I have about 4 coils laying around. Pretty sure 2 of them are good if anyone wants them. They suit a 93 era. Will not fit a Legacy though, WRX's only.

These cars get expensive, but hasn't stopped me yet, I'll have the packs and give them a go.

The car is havin some work done as we speak, they've modded one of the packs as it has broke a bit, i'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again

FYI

Car fixed and goes like a rocket, set to sit at 15psi. Anyone have any ideas of the peak Pressure I could run at reasonably safely?

Still need to change a breaking coil pack, it's bodged back together for the time being, but I'll getting replacements from 'dosenöffner' - thank you!

The other thing was a really tiny split in a pipe, it was a vacuum pipe, something to do with the fuel?

Thank you everyone for you help. Happy now

Dan
