Question

I currently own a 1995 subaru impreza sti type ra. The annoying problem is that the car wont start form cold. The car takes about 10 starts before i can get it to tickover. The car starts fine from hot, but leave it for a couple of hours and the problem is back. At the same time the fan is also stuck on. I've reset the ECU a couple of times now. After doing this the cars fine for about a day then the problem returns. When resetting the ecu the fan also returns to normal, but as soon as the problem returns the fan becomes stuck on again.

I may be wrong but it sounds like your water temp. sensor

Hope that helps

As Gavin suggests sounds like the eCU thinks the car is hot when it is acutally cold so try the temp sensor..

There is reset codes here but it might not show up as an error code..

Check the wires to it too..

Might be worth removing it and cleaning it.. could have got containated with dirty coolent etc..

I like the cheap option of cleaning all sensors that stand still long enough under my engine lid..

Where is the temp sensor located. One other problem is that my engine check light doesnt work, so i dont know if a fault code is present. As it happens my mate has a subaru identical to mine and his check engine light doesnt work either.

Just as a point could it be the throttle position sensor??

Ripped from the site I linked to above the temp sensor is here

How do you mean the check engine light doesn't work?

Someone removed the bulb to hide a fault before you bought it?

Replace the bulb/fix it..?
