Black & White seems to be the key factor here.

Most of the tabloids now appear to have colouor inserts.

Although only 20p on average for a tabloid seems on the suraface to be cost efficient - they just don't give the coverage of a broadsheet.

Having said that - beware the the Braodsheets that are Black & Pink - Not Black & White.

Helps this helps,

Chris.

PS - as an alternative - regular inspection of both wiper blades and windscreen helps too - sometimes cleaning both with a houshold detergent (eg washing liquid or concentrated automotive screenwash) may resolve this problem.

Seriously - Heard nothing but very good things about pure silicon blades (eg PIAA) - when I next change my wipers I will ensure they are pure silicon (note not just silicon coated as - I have been warned that this can wear off over time). The most important fact with silicon blades is in the installation - ensure the winsdcreen is clean (ie grease free) install new silicon blades & run DRY for at least 5 mins - this will ensure the windscreen is covered in a fine coating of silicon - this will repel water (ala RainX etc) when at speed.

Are there any wipers I can get for my car that will actually work at 70mph ? I have tried Bosch spoiler blade ones and the bog standard type ones and have had problems with both. I have heard of PIAA wipers, can anyone recommend these and point me to a supplier ? My car is a WRX 94 model, do the later cars also suffer from this problem, inc bugeyes ? I was thinking maybe it would have been sorted with later models. Will the blades and/or arms off a bug eye fit and would there be any benefit in carrying out such a mod ?

It's a bit annoying having a faster, better gripping and handling car than most only to be relegated to the slow lane because I can only drive as fast as the wipers will allow, which is equivalent to the top speed of a trotter mobile !

Thanks in advance

Ken

I don't think there is any glistening, will check later as it will most likely rain, but the drivers side wiper seems to just smear the water across the glass. I thought it was to do with the wind getting between the blade and the glass reducing the contact of the rubber but could be wrong.

Smearing is usually caused by a greasy windscreen! Use some brake cleaner on a rag and clean it off.
Be carefull of the paintwork and plastic just in case though!!

Ken

I have just fitted PIAA wiper blades and am delighted with the results - especially asit has rained every day since!

Well worth the extra ££££££.

Try cleaning the screen with vinager and a piece of black and white newspaper rolled up into a ball. Don't know how it works but it stops smearing and you don't have to worry about getting it on your paintwork.

Cleaning the windows with newspaper... i'll second that.

Works a treat. Even just clean water and a newspaper. Can even do the same with rain water if you're in the middle of nowhere and your wipers start smearing. I dunno how it works.. it just does.
