What do HKS coat their exhausts with?

Anyone know?
Yesterday took my Hiper off the car to give it a spruce up because the mild steel centre section and pipe up to the stainless back box were looking a bit ropey.
Got the thing off, attacked it with the rotory wire brush on the angle grinder, used genolite to stablise any surface rust, left it to dry for a couple of hours in the garage and then sprayed it with high temp paint as the instructions...
Went into the garage this morning and found most of the paint lying on the floor in flakes WTF Just running a brush over it has taken the lot off, what the hell is going on!
Anyone managed to successfully repaint theirs? If you have, what did you do?

Not yet, was going to try my zinc enriched primer next...
Got a feeling it's an aluminiumised coating, because where it hasn't corroded the metal is very clean, but is very marked from the wire brushing oh, well tomorrow when I'm sober I'll have another go

VHT, Very High Temperature pain available in halfords, woks well, but need carefull application (in spray cans) and a good baking (can be heated in use of course).
You can also get a brush on version from another manufacturer which is much cheaper, and stays on just as well it would seem.
All good sized Halfords have them, so a paint suppliers must stock them too.

Paul, although not Halfords own, that's what I tried, and it pealed straight off!
I'll try a can of brush on instead, but I doubt that it will take either...
Any ideas what aluminium should be primed with? Just need something to key into the surface...lead dichromate springs to mind, but all that will do is strip off the oxide layer
