Legacy Towing weight?

Towing Unbraked Trailers
------------------------
In the absence of vehicle manufacturer's specific restrictions for unbraked trailers the following will apply: (1986 C&U Reg. 87)
Unbraked trailers may only be towed by vehicles having a kerbside weight of at least twice the actual in-use weight of the trailer.
For example, a vehicle with a kerbside weight of 1000kg is restricted to towing an unbraked trailer of 500kg including load, even if the trailer has a MAM of 750kg.
However, if the vehicle manufacturer recommends a lower weight, this figure should not be exceeded. This is not strictly a legal stipulation, but failure to comply may be viewed as using a vehicle in an unsafe condition and can lead to prosecution.
Towing Braked Trailers
----------------------
There is no specific law restricting the weight of a braked trailer which may be towed by these vehicles.
However, exceeding the maximum towing weight or train weight set by the vehicle manufacturer can lead to prosecution.
Some vehicles are marked either with the maximum towing weight or the maximum train weight on the manufacturer's plate.
Otherwise the information will be found in the vehicle handbook.

Dunno but another way to play it would be to ring a UK Subaru dealer and ask.. not sure if the GT is an Import? but just pick a normal legacy and ask the max it can tow on a braked trailer etc... I think this is where I got the 1800kgs from for mine....
I would expect your to be slightly greater than that..

I was told the towing limit for my Impreza Wagon was 1800kgs.. but I cannot remember where I was told that.. pretty sure I found it on the net somewhere..
The limit I found was 1800kgs.. roughtly 1.5times the kerb weight of the towing vehicle... impreza wagon weights 1270kgs..
I towed a corsa weighing 900kgs on a big trailer which was about another 300kgs (estimate) for 200miles with no problems and I regularly tow about 500kgs with no problems.
You could try ring Gordon Love TRailers whose website is here they have always been helpful.
