I have an StI 4 with 60,000km , on it . It was an import from Japan at 50km, with unknown service history. It had been serviced (by the previous owner I purchased it from) ,at 52km, by a garage, who had used Castrol RS synthetic.
Now it has run a big end bearing and stuffed the crank. I am told by a reputable Subaru dealership that the Castrol RS would have been a major contributing factor to this failure. It had travelled 8,000 km on that oil, before failure - not hard km either, mostly around town, with about 3000kn open road stuff.
My question is - does anyone have any feedback on Castrol RS oil in WRX's ? Has anyone else had RS based failures of big ends ?

Thanks
Grant

If it is Castrol RS 10/60, then it is a very good oil. I think it is available now in a thinner 0 rating, which would not be reccomended.
If it was the 10/60, then the Subaru dealer is talking rubbish. Unfortunately Subarus have a bit of a habit of stuffing the big ends at any random moment, with no real reason yet being proven as to the cause.

Thumbs up

Been using it for two years and 15,000 miles in mine (MY00 WRX RA V6 ltd) including one very (VERY!) rapid trip through France and back.

I reckon it's the dogs!

Dave.
