Newbie Boost Question
#1
Without chipping or re-mapping ECU, I know you can raise your boost by either winding in the spring on your actuator or fitting a bleed valve (This causes the engine to run leaner). I've heard the term e.g."440cc Injectors" chucked about on this forum and wondered would something like these be a safer way of running higher than normal boost without forking out for a chip ?

Well, to a point, you're OK just running higher boost. This doesn't actually make the car run leaner, but it creates the 'opportunity' to move into an area of the map that may run leaner; only likely to happen if you do enough other mods (induction kit, no cats, free-flowing exhaust, new headers - this little lot together may increase the airflow beyond what the ECU is set up for for information from the MAF, & hence lead to lean running...)
In short, you're fine with a Euro model, & are quite possibly in trouble with a JDM.

On a previous UK 94 I had a blitz Nur spec R system and the acutator wound up so it would hold 1 bar; anything slightly over this and the fuel cut-off thing would kick in. On my new one (UK 98)the previous owner had it running at 1.3bar with the same exhaust set up and the fuel cut off doesn't kick in. Could I have other modifications I don't know about ??? How can it boost so high without being chipped ?

The two cars have different turbos - the one on the older car was larger, and hence didn't need to run such high boost to get the same charge density.
1.3 bar is about as high as the newer model will go without fuel-cut, I think! Yep, looks about right - quite lucky to run it at this level as it is!
