hi m8,

i have taken my drivers side grill plate off, and yes it is good..but!! better still, get a scoop on, that realy works!! i will send you a pic of mine, its top, i take it u have a induction kit? DONT take the passengers side plate off, or you will get lots of rain on your fuse box NOT GOOD!!!

Thumbs down

Er....No don't do it IMHO.

Water ingress, messed up aerodynamics and no real gain unless you count the noise.

I was under the impression that taking them off disrupted the airflow under the bonnet and actually caused under bonnet temps to rise....

Not certain, just what I was told when I used to take them off.

I think the passenger side one protects the fusebox but I think a scoop on the drivers side forcing cold air onto the induction kit could be a good idea.

I dont really think theres definitive 'proof' either way.

Ben is absolutely correct.
I have done a lot of work including accurately measuring temperatures in various locations and if the louvre blanks are removed in isolation then expect a small but signifigant increase in under bonnet temperatures.
I think that the design intention is for air to come in at the front, over the engine and turbo and exit down the transmission tunnel. Taking out the grill blanks upsets air flow as I think there is a low pressure area on the top of the bonnet above the louvres.
What will help is removing a strip of sealing rubber from the front of the bonnet on the drivers side just above the headlight but you may get a bit of salt and road dirt coming into the engine bay.
