More description might help.

Not start = Turning over? with/without coughing, or totally dead ? If totally dead does the dash light up, and clicking noises when you turn the key ? Do you hear the fuel pump pressurise the fuel system ?

The list of questions could be fairly endless so I will stop there ......

The clicking sounds like the starter motor. Get someone to turn the key while you check if power is coming to the starter motor. If it is, i assume it's knacked, if not - you could be right about the immobiliser.
I had very similar symtons on my old Pug, it turned out to be a dodgy wire to the starter.
Keep us posted.

I've just re-read your last post.
Does the car actually turn over and click, or is there just click and no turn?

Check the volts at the battery when you turn it over..
Jump it off another car with jump leads..

I'd out my money on there not being enough power in the battery..

Most likely the battery is dead / dying..

Or could be the alternator but they seem fairly good on the Scoob and rarely die.

Mine had a simular problem recently, it would start fine some days but others it would just click. I checked everything and changed the starter motor in the end which cured it.

If this is you problem get one from a breakers as I did for about £35 as Subaru what something like £350 for a new one.

Similar experience recently, engine turned over but would not start...turned out that when the car was moved earlier in the day we had flooded it (moved it 3 feet)the battery was an amp shy of charged and so the blady thing would not start....try getting a jump start.

I had a similar thing last year with my MY95 WRX. Turned out to be the petrol pump. Fitted a new (used) one from a breaker and it has been fine ever since.

Sounds to me like the starter motor, i would get some one to turn the key while u give it a knock, as if the starter is sticking then this should release it and start the car, if so then u no what u need to replace.

I assume that it's clicking and not turning over then it could be either the starter motor, or the starter solenoid (experience with other cars) I assume the scoob has one?

really? the engines turning over quite quickly it occasionally coughs a tiny bit. Can you confirm this is still a battery problem and if its normal for the check engine light to come on with the ignition is on, thank you very much

sounds exactly the same as what im just trying to sort at the moment mate. Engine turns over and splutters every now and again but wont fire.

Checked coilpacks, ecu test etc on mine, all good. Fuel pump primes etc

so at the mo my 2 ideas are crank sensor and temp sensor as they both control spark and wouldnt let the ****er start if they were naffed

pmortlock,

Sorry mate I thought you meant all you got is a click.. and engine not turning over..

Click from dash might just be a normal relay click.. just you are looking for things...

Have you tried the check engine light history?

Connect the green connectors under the dash and turn on the ignition (don;t start engine) do you get anything other than a steady flash roughly 1 per second?

Decode the error code here

crank sensor is right under the alternator, basically ull see a single 10 mm bolt next to a sensor under it going into cam cover. Just undo this, its a small magnetic cylinder with a wire on it....

Mines still ****ed proper confused

Checked fuel pressure, injector pulse etc all good,
checked coilpack, spark plugs etc getting spark
changed crank sensor, throttle postition sensor, inlet air control solenoid
tried starting without maf plugged in

No ecu error codes

What next lol, or am i at the can of petrol and insurance job stage looool
