Question

Hi all.

I've recently fitted a new downpipe, a one off H+S with a GGR racing cat, the car's obviously going better and producing a bit more boost whitch i've been getting used to

Last night i was experimenting on a roundabout (trying to provoke a slide ) full throttle, 2nd gear 5K ish revs, then wham the power drops away like hitting a brick wall, the car pops a couple of flames then shes off again, the fuel gauge was showing just under half full.

Car's spec is my95wrx (240) with afore mentioned downpipe, TSL decat center and Gr N back box, uprated fuel pump (GGR) ITG panel filter and Forge VTA dump valve.

I would like to think it was fuel cut? (although the car was loaded up in the corner) If it was, would the more agresive 260ecu help??

Regards, Roy

Took this from the SIDC faq page, maybe this is what you're getting. I used to get it until I got a power FC

================================================== ===========

There is also an apparent protection system built in to the ECU to prevent damage to the gearbox under hard acceleration in 2nd gear. When travelling at a constant speed for a period of time between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm(more than 5 seconds), pressing the accelerator can result in less than full boost being delivered until 5,000+ rpm is reached. This phenomenon has been observed in a variety of cars, in different countries, but only by a small handful of drivers. Without replacing the ECU with an aftermarket one, the only real alternative is to make a change in your driving style. Simply drive along in 3rd gear, and change down to 2nd when needed, or simply change up to third and let the mid range torque do all the work.

could well be fuel surge as the type of driving you've described would cause the fuel to move away from the pump and thus cause the symptoms you've described

If you car is an MY95 WRX then it already has the 260PS ECU..!!! because they have 260PS or 256bhp from the factory..!!

You have all those mods and no boost gauge..??? i suggest you get one they are only £40+..!

If it was fuel cut then its often like hitting a wall, all power stops very suddenly..! fuel cut is about 1.1 bar i think on an MY95 WRX..

Thumbs up

I was getting it badly, due to the roundabouts typical size around here, and of course my driving style when it happened in a straight line.

I've got a 94 import wrx.

It definitely wasn't fuel cut as my peak pressure was running well below the fuel cut limit. It did feel like the brick wall syndrome, so I spent some time looking up the problem.

Now I've replaced the ECU it doesn't happen. Maybe coincidence, but better anyway.

Best of luck finding your problem, without too much expense.

I used to get get fuel surge exiting the Donnington hairpin (right-hander) with half a tank or less.

If its fuel cut (resulting from too much boost) then I would expect it to be more apparent in the higher gears.
