mechanical or electrical gauges?
#2
Mechanical are cheapest.
Electrical cost loads more but are much easier to fit.
Also, no risk of getting an oil leak inside the car with electrical.
I have a mechanical boost gauge and it is fine.
Not too happy about oil pressure gauge being mechanical, though.

couple of ways at looking at this, I will attempt to give you some info to help you draw your own conclusion that suits your application best.
Mech gauges
-----------
1. Require a feed from whatever is being measured ran to the gauge, eg for oil temp you have to run an oil line into the car to the gauge.
2. Arguably more accurate, this certainly used to be the case, not so certain about this one now.
3. Because of number 1 can be a right pain to fit and do you want oil lines running in the car.
Elec Gauges
-----------
1. sends an electronic signal from whatever is being monitored therefore easier to fit and no hot/messy lines running into car.
2. easier to fit
3. Didn't used to be as accurate as the above, probably not the case with modern gauges.
Hope thats useful for you
Peter.
